2008 Summer Olympic Games
Orthopedic service ready for take off, 06.08.2008
Exactly 193 women and 245 men form the German team in Beijing. Bauerfeind AG is providing them with an Orthopedic Service in the German House – the central meeting point for athletes, officials, commercial partners, journalists and politicians. If injured or in need of preventive care, the athletes can be supplied with supports and othoses, orthopedic insoles and compression stockings. The Service Station is also equipped with modern measurement technology, as well as machines and tools for individually adapting the products.
The Bauerfeind Station officially goes into operation with the opening of the German House. But the orthopedic service was in demand much earlier, albeit not to fulfill it’s sporting mission: The construction manager for the indoor and outdoor facilities for the German House was already waiting for the Bauerfeind Team. “Ten days ago while laying down flooring here in the garden I twisted my ankle,” recalls Andrea Heinrich. As she had put up the Bauerfeind logos on the Orthopedic Service Station, “I knew that you were coming.” A MalleoTrain® ankle support and lymph drainage treatments now relieve the pain from her torn ligament. Even a brief timeout for the construction boss, who is frantically busy around the clock with her team, was not an option. After all, everything has to be ship shape by the opening.
Around 600 to 700 visitors a day are expected at the German House. As the first athlete, Dirk Nowitzki became the official representative of the German Olympic Committee (DOSB): The 30-year-old basketball star was presented to the 100 or so journalists as the “surprise guest” during the first DOSB press conference. On Friday, Nowitzki will lead the German Team as the flag bearer at the opening ceremonies for the Summer Games.
